I was going to title this post “State of the Union” because it’s basically a breakdown of how things are going with me, but then I thought that was rather silly given that I’m not really a union or country or something. However, I do have a number of affairs going on right now that I felt like sharing here on this here blog, so here goes:

Current Endeavors:

Inkblots

A few weeks ago I submitted an proposal for an art show featuring my inkblots. So far, I’ve amassed a nice little collection that is currently growing on a steady basis. I’m very pleased with the way they turned out and am excited about the concept that I have behind them, so I’m eager to shop them around to different venues and galleries. The nice thing about writing about a proposal for one place is that you have something ready to shop around to different spots (not necessarily limited to galleries, either). I have my eye on a few specific places but I’m really eager to hang them in a nice, crisp space that isn’t cluttered.

With it being so summery and fun, the inkblots are the perfect creation for the next few months. The colors embody the spontaneity and joy of the season so much that they’re hard to really put down for now. I’ll be making some smaller scale originals to sell on my online store but if anyone is interested in buying a larger scale piece, shoot me an email at jaimee@jaimeetodd.com.

Photography:

So…Lulu has been bugging me for her very own site because she’s tired of sharing the spotlight with the paintings and the inkblots. I figured it was only fair to make her happy and also to give a stronger sense of uniformity to my own portfolio. I felt like the photography was a bit of a distraction from the paintings and when I feel like I’m ready to really shop around my, er, I mean Lulu’s photography and promote it more, there will be a separate portfolio for that. I’ll still be sure to share her creations here on the blog but for some really exclusive Lulu, please visit her new site Lulu Eye. It’s very much a work in progress but please do make sure to visit. She also loves to read comments so  be sure to leave a note, even if it’s just to say hi.

Blog:

I’m really amazed and incredibly humbled that my blog post Artist Beware! generated such a strong response from people all over the world. In addition to getting feedback from different artists from a variety of backgrounds, I was blown away to see that it was also being shared in various artist forums across the net and on the almighty Twittersphere. Initially, I just wrote the post because I was really pissed off by the terms and conditions of H&M’s t-shirt contest,  but it seemed to have evolved beyond something else; it also became a chance to merge my law background with the arts to pass on important information that will better arm artists  going forward with their own art business endeavors. Seeing that people have a real appetite for such information, I will make a point to share more in the future.

It has also been refreshing to be able to write candidly about my own experiences as I go about  my own  journey into the art world. I first created this blog with the idea of just writing about my own projects and sharing pictures and such, but over time it has evolved into a medium in which I can challenge the status quo that artists so frequently encounter. It has also become a place where artists can come forward and vent about their own frustrations and insights, which is tremendous. I want to thank everyone for the kind words they have shared with me (whether publicly or privately) and encourage people to keep sharing!

In the meantime, I’m still doing the 9-5 day-job-hustling thing, which is one of the reasons why I haven’t posted as frequently as I did when I had some time off. I’m working on amending that so I don’t leave people hanging or thinking I’m slacking off, but a girl’s gotta eat and pay bills, so please be patient.

So, those are some of the things happening in my neck of woods. There are other things cooking on the stove but since they’re not ready to serve, I will have to share them at a later date but I look forward to doing so. In the meantime, stay vertical!

Cousin Ric, I wish you were coming to the reunion but I know it’s quite a trek from your neck of the woods. You will be missed :) I’m excited to hear that you have an exhibition coming up though. I hope you share pictures!
