My mom just emailed me a picture she took of a photograph that she commissioned for her living room. I guess this explains where my love of clouds comes from.
The funny anecdote behind this commission is, years ago, my mom wanted my sister and I to paint her a picture of some clouds against a blue sky. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift that she had been hounding us for for years. Since we both happened to be home at the same time, she finally managed to corner get us to get this giant canvas and paint this “ethereal” image with acrylic paint.
It did not go well.
My sister and I draw in different styles and neither one of us were in the position to paint beautiful, transparent clouds with acrylic. It was an exercise in coordination and ultimately, futility. Unfortunately, the cloud commission got shelved in the basement (where it still may be residing in some musty corner somewhere) until a later time. Luckily, when I went home this past summer for some vacation time, I had my trusty Lulu with me and she was able to get the clouds that my mom wanted. She was able to blow them up on canvas and frame them to hang in the living room. I’m so happy with the way the photograph turned out; it actually looks like a window to a beautiful summery day (and considering that my mom is in Michigan, she can use all the sunniness that she can get).
Just wanted to share! Enjoy your clouds, Mom!
