As you might have guessed, I’ve become quite enamored with street photography and my little buddy Stevie. They’re both addictive.

Last night I was on the subway on my way home and as I was looking out of the subway window, I was fascinated by how the reflection of a man leaning up against the train car wall melded with the view of the street below in the window. It created kind of a ghostly apparition. I took a couple of shots and played around with the colors to come up with two different interpretations of the shot.

I can’t decide which one I like the most; the black and white image, as my friend said, had a jazzy vibe to it. The colorful one has a decidedly energetic feel to it.

So why choose? I’ll just share and enjoy both.

Some leaves I collected from a tree near my house.

For a while I resisted the end of summer. I didn’t want to bid farewell to the feel of the warm sun tickling the back of my  arms and neck and throwing my windows open to welcome in the heat. But, change is good and inevitable and when change involves something as beautiful as autumn in New York, it is welcomed with open arms.

I have been enjoying a little time off in between contract gigs and have been soaking up all the autumnal beauty that I can in my treks throughout the city. Many of these images are giving way to some ideas that I have been photographing and will be committing to paper. Here are some of the things that I find inspiring:

Happy Autumn! You can see more of the shots I took in the last few days through my slideshow on Flickr. I’m considering adding these photos as a postcard set on my online store and am currently gauging interest, so if you’d like to see that happen, leave a note in the comments section or shoot me an email at jaimee@jaimeetodd.com.

Cheers!

It’s amazing how when you’re in New York City, you can leave travel between two worlds when you ride the subway to get to your destination. The subterranean world differs so much from what is going on above ground. Here, I was waiting for the #1 train on the way uptown as a furious Nor’easter churned into town. I took this shot with Stevie as the train pulled into the station but it wasn’t until I uploaded it later on that day that I noticed that figure of the woman appearing as a reflection in the train’s window. It looks so ghostly as she is frozen in that moment in time.

Later on, I ventured above ground and into that crazy storm. On my way back to Queens, I managed to also get a shot of the world above ground and added an Instagram filter to add to the lost, kind of hazy look of the aftermath of the storm. Looking at it makes it really hard to believe that this photo was taken in October.

Stevie, my new iPhone, is my latest addition to my electronic family! I’m sure it’s not hard to figure where his name comes from but I finally decided to join the rest of civilization and buy a smartphone. Naturally, I had to get an Apple gadget but I have to say, I have had a fine old time playing with Stevie and figuring out all of his bells and whistles.

Most notably, Stevie has an amazing camera for a phone. The 8 megapixel lens offers some beautifully crisp photos and since I’ve added the Instagram app, picture taking has become spontaneous and even more fun. Before I started using it, I was a little suspicious of the whole Instagram thing, thinking that it took out the art of taking good pictures by turning any old photo into something interesting, but after using it, I can definitely say that you still need to a good eye to really good a good effect with the app.

Anyway, these are some of the pics I’ve taken wtih Stevie but there will definitely be more!
